Espace Killy Intermediate Runs

Intermediate Runs in the Espace Killy
There is a vast choice of slopes in the high Alps where intermediate skiers and boarders can sample the stunning views whilst cruising down perfectly groomed pistes. The number and variety of runs on offer can be quite bewildering - 61 blue runs and 46 red runs make this area an intermediate's paradise.
Intermediate Runs in Grande Motte & The Palet / L'Aiguille
From Val Claret, you can head straight up the Funiculaire or the Les Lanches and Vanoise chairlifts to the base of the Tignes glacier. You can ski the red runs and Leisse on the glacier itself. This is a black run, but does not deserve this rating unless it is un-groomed, and this is rare! To ski back down to Val Claret, there are a series of red runs on a long descent which join Double M. Before skiing Tichot and Grattalu, it is worth going back up Les Lanches to do this run again after lunch as the top pitch from this lift is beautiful, always in great condition and very quiet.

Intermediate Runs in Toviere & Les Brevieres / L'Aiguille Percee
From Val Claret, you may wish to take the route advised for leisurely skiers to get to Tignes Le Lac as this is a comfortable ski and a good warm up route. Once there, take the Aeroski gondola and then the Cretes piste towards Val d’Isere direction but turn onto Combe Folle towards Tignes Le Lac. This red run joins Trolles, a black piste with a steep schuss at the end. To avoid this, there is an escape lane off the piste which will take you to the Chaudannes chair. From here, you can ski blue and red runs back into Tignes le Lac and then ski the runs around the Palafour chairlift. After lunch and snow-permitting, you may decide to ski to Tignes les Brevieres. There is a beautiful blue path piste at the bottom of Rhododendron off the Chaudannes chair. This winds its way into Les Brevieres where you can stop for a drink before taking the Sache bubble, Aiguille Rouge and Bleuets run back to Le Lac.

Intermediate Runs in Bellevarde
Take the Olympique from the Solaise area or the Funival from La Daille up to the top of Bellevarde. From here, there are several green and blue run options in the La Daille direction. You can aim to cover these as the Marmottes chairlift will bring you up to the same spot. The circuit detailed above can also be followed – perhaps adding in the red Fontaine Froid piste which runs under the lift. After lunch, there are also red run options off the top of the Tommeuses lift – Rocs and Crêtes – although look out for moguls as you go up the lift! There are a couple of options back down to La Daille for the intermediate skier, but one of the nicest runs is OK.

Intermediate Runs in Le Fornet
Take the Train Rouge out of Val d’Isere centre to Le Fornet and the Le Fornet cable car followed by the Vallon de l’Iseran to the base of the glacier.

From here you can warm up on some blue runs in and around the Vallon bubble and back down to resort and the pistes should be very quiet. Have a shot at the Cognon - a red run which finishes at the Le Fornet cable car. You can stop for lunch in Le Signal or l’Edelweiss (half way down the Mangard). On the glacier in the afternoon, there are four red runs which are usually in fantastic condition. Roches, Géant, Moraine and Cascade can be skied over and over again!

Intermediate Runs in Le Solaise
From Val d’Isere centre, take the Solaise Express chairlift up to the Solaise skiing area. It is a good idea for skiers of all levels to spend at least a morning warming up. Many people only ski once a year and accidents are common on the first couple of days when the muscles are unprepared!

Intermediate Skiers can also cover the Madeleine area and ski the runs in and around the Glacier Express where there are nice and easy blues and greens. There are then options for lunch in La Datcha, Tete de Solaise or de l'Ouillette. After lunch, intermediates can ski Cugnai and Arcelle as well the lower runs to Laisinant. If you are tired, avoid the runs down to Solaise.
